Congratulations to the following students for being selected to play in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 8 Band Festival to be held at Williamsport Area High School on February 10-14, 2010! These students were chosen by audition on Nov. 22, also at WAHS, from auditioning students from schools in nine PA counties: Bradford, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberlan, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga, & Union.
Megan Terrel, 10th Gr., Clarinet III
Gretta Deutschle, 10th Gr., Bass Clarinet
Once at the Festival, Megan and Gretta will re-audition for chair placement and the opportunity to qualify for the PMEA Region IV Band Festival (District 8 and 9 combined) to be held in March.
Honorable mention to Ellie Knapp, 10th Gr., Clarinet, for being chosen to participate as well. Ellie was forced to withdraw from the D8 Festival due to a schedule conflict, and will not participate.
Congratulations to the following Troy students for being selected to participate in the Bradford/Sullivan County Band Festival, being held right here at the Troy Area High School, on January 6, 22, and 23. The concert will be held on Saturday, January 23rd, at 2:00pm in Memorial Auditorium.
Attention all Parents/Guardians of 7th & 8th Grade Band Students.
All 7th & 8th Grade Band students should have received a sheet of paper in band today reflecting their updated grade for Q1. It was brought to my attention that all grades for the quarter were intially holding too much weght, and therefore adversely affecting each student's grade, aside from those with perfect scores. This caused missing assignments to hurt a student's Q1 grade beyond the amount it should have according to the weights in the Course Outline. Students who had an improved score should see approx a 3-5% benefit on their Q1 percentage, thereby improving grades by a partial letter or more (i.e. B- became a B, B+ became an A-). No one should have had a lower grade as a result of the change.
You can download and/or read the course outline here. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mr. Schwanger.
Just a quick FYI: There are now two RSS Feeds available to subscribe to from the Troy Bands site. One is under the ANNOUNCEMENTS page. The other is found at a location I'll leave you to find. As the site continues to grow in use and importance, this should be a good way to stay up-to-date on some things that get announced. We'll try to do our best to post things like Fundraising info and Calendar Changes/Reminders.
For those unfamiliar with RSS: this is an acronym for "Really Simple Syndication." When you subscribe to something called a "Feed" you will receive updates and additions to the information contained at that page online. Consider this the way you think of a newspaper. You COULD go down to the corner store to purchase the paper every day. It would be time consuming, but if its part of your routine, you may not think anything of it. HOWEVER, for the same cost, you could have the paper delivered to your door ever morning. That way, the information is always there, whether you went to get it or not. If you view trhe headlines and choose not to read it that day, you send it to the recycle bin! In order to receive RSS, you'll need a feed reader. Thunderbird, Google Reader, and even Internet Explorer are capable of subscribing to RSS feeds. Try it out today!
This Friday evening marks the 2009 Troy Area High School Homecoming. The Band will be involved as usual this year. Our first duty will be to march a short parade with the Homecoming Court and distinguished alumni. Later, we will be playing for the halftime program, as the Court is introduced. As usual, we'll also play in the stands and make plenty of noise! Any alumni of the Band is encouraged to bring his/her instrument and sit in with the current members for 1,2, or 4 quarters of the game. We'll even get you music if you don't have one of the band's stands tunes in your memory banks.
Band members: report time is 5:15, at the usual location. We can march or reassemble at the Skating Rink following warmup. Pleease be sure to pick up your uniform BEFORE 5:00pm.
If the Troy HS Varsity Football team makes the PIAA District IV Playoffs, the band will plan to attend. The dates are:
Round 1: Friday 11/13 or Saturday 11/14
Round 2: Friday 11/20 or Saturday 11/21
Round 3: Friday 11/27 or Saturday 11/28
Please try to avoid major plans during any of these weekends, if at all possible, especially for Round 1. Remember that the band already has scheduled Saturday performances on the 21st and the 28th.
The Google Calendar on this page has been updated to reflect the schedule that was handed out at the end of Band Camp. It also includes the dates for potential Playoff games in November. You can also download a copy of the schedule handed out at camp on the Documents page.
