Mr. Daniel Schwanger

B.S. in Music Education, Duquesne University

Daniel Schwanger is currently an Instrumental Music Teacher in the Troy Area School District in Troy, PA, where he directs the Concert Band, the Trojan Marching Band, the Stage Band, and the 7th/8th Grade Band.  He also teaches Music Theory and Music Appreciation.  Prior to working in Troy, Mr. Schwanger taught in the Council Rock School District and the Williamsport Area School District.  He teaches horn and other brass instruments privately, and directs the Youth Choir at the First United Methodist Church in Williamsport.

Mr. Schwanger is a graduate of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education.  Growing up, Mr. Schwanger attended grades K-12 in the Boyertown Area School District, where he gradutated from Boyertown Area High School.  Mr. Schwanger is active as a Horn player and has performed in many areas of Pennsylvania.  He has performed with the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra, the Susquehanna Valley Chorale, the Billtown Brass, The Penn Central Wind Band, the Repasz Band, the Pittsburgh Opera Center, the Duquesne University Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra, the Bucknell Symphony Orchestra, the Lycoming College Band, and the Reading Pops Orchestra, in addition to performing for various school musicals, church services, and other events.  He has also performed and toured as a vocalist in the Duquesne University Chamber Singers, and was a member of the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Schwanger currently resides in Cogan Station, PA, with his wife Carol and their daughter Madelyn.  His interests include attending the First United Methodist Church and singing in the Chancel Choir, playing church softball, practicing his horn, doing yard and house work, watching TV, spending time with his immediate and extended family, and hanging out with his great friends.

 

Mrs. Mary Hawthorne

B.A. in Music, Mansfield University; Orff Certification Levels I, II, III

Mary Hawthorne currently teaches the 4th, 5th, and 6th Grade Bands in the Troy Area School District, as well as 8th Grade General Music.  She is also directs the choir at the First United Methodist Chuch, Troy PA.  She formerly served as the choir director at Windfall United Methodist Church in Windfall, PA.

Mrs. Hawthorne is a graduate of Mansfield University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music.  Growing up, Mrs. Hawthorne attended school in the Downingtown Area School District, where she graduated from Downingtown Area High School.  In addition to teaching, she currently performs on trombone in the Canton and Troy areas.    She has performed for numerous school productions and church services.  She has also been seen performing on guitar, drums, and vocals, in a variety of settings.

Mrs. Hawthorne is a Troy resident along with her husband Charlie.  They have three children who all graduated from Troy Area High School.  Her primary interest outside of her career is the American Civil War, and she especially enjoys traveling with friends to Civil War historic sites throughout the country.  She also enjoys reading and studying family geneology.
